Invasion of The Invasion

Amongst the catching up that The Tour is trying to make good on was this year’s Top Three Tournament over at Gallifrey Base.  For the uninitated it takes all of the TV stories from Hartnell up to the ‘present’ day, mixes them into groups of 6 or 7, and then lets voters advance their 3 favorite stories from each group.  As rounds advance and stories are eliminated, we eventually get down to the Final group, and the winner (for the first time) this year was The Invasion.

And while the THT Brain Trust admires The Invasion, as you might imagine this game over at Gallfrey Base seems to favor, shall we say, experienced fans.  But that inference not withstanding, The Invasion really is a great story which, although epic in length at 8 episodes, certainly doesn’t feel like it.  Most importantly it fully signaled the way forward for Doctor Who going into the 70’s.  All reasons enough to be a beloved story.
