Most folks would rightly assume that the black and white era of classic Who ended with episode 10 of The War Games back in 1969. And aside from a gimmicky first few minutes of The Two Doctors, you would almost be right. But the Tour would assert that the neglected middle-child of Season 20’s Black Guardian trilogy, Terminus, is the gray-est story, possibly, in the whole of Doctor Who.
Terminus in so many aspects is so unremittingly gray in story, design, and performance. It makes what can only be called a ’60s mistake’ insofar as Turlough and Tegan are essentially sidelined for a large part of Terminus, consigned to taking cover and sparring with each other. Was Turlough put in at relatively the last minute and shoehorned into the story much in the way Jamie was awkwardly inserted into The Moonbase? It sure seems like it. Even the Black Guardian bits are relatively un-essential.
For a site like the Tour which (rounding up a little) which has been around for 24 years, you would have thought that Terminus, or at least the mention of it, would have popped up at least a few times, But no, the last time Terminus was even referred to was when the original capping of the story happened in March 2015. Terminus is just that forgettable.
What hasn’t been forgotten though are the new HD-caps for Terminus. They’re in color, At least we’re pretty sure they are.
