It’s all such a familiar feeling, sitting halfway through a season ending story with multiple cliffhangers imperiling the cast and indeed the world itself. The posture for any self-respecting fan who has been through this before, and hopefully will be again, has to be this: Let’s give Wish World–at best–a grade of incomplete.
We’ll also leave the ‘companion’ feeling of sinking dread that plays off the knowledge that usually the front end of the story essentially over-promises on what the back half of the story could ever deliver, and set that off to the side for a moment. We can, however, all agree on this.
That, meaning Wish World, was bonkers.
Even more so than might be expected in Doctor Who, Wish World has a magical underpinning which can undermine all storytelling logic, but there is a question which kept coming up in our considerations. Did Wish World need to be a Rani story? We kept thinking about Michelle Gomez and couldn’t really see the difference. Perhaps she wasn’t available or, more likely, it was a need to be show something different to viewers, but right now it doesn’t matter all that much.
Because Wish World was bonkers.
We can only hope that ‘The Reality War’ resolves most of the threads hanging out there. Goodness knows there are enough of them (Omega? OMG!). Images and caps for Wish World are now online.
