Having tried, and utterly failing, to make sense of The Reality War, the Tour has opted to retreat to far more comfortable, not to mention pleasing, environs of ‘Who Not Who!,’ the serendipitous realm of seeing Doctor Who people in non-Doctor Who situations.
Our stop this time, and could quite honestly be every time, is another of Patrick Troughton prolific appearances on all manner of British TV which constituted the bulk of the Doctor Who’s ultimate character actor. ‘The Four Just Men’ was a one and done example of early ‘proto TV,’ running from 1959-60 and featuring four ‘international’ leads, 2 from the U.S. one from England, and one from the continent, each of which took turns as the lead in their individual stories, all in aid for international sale of the program.
Troughton appeared as Inspector Nardi in aid of Vittorio De Sica in ‘The Night of the Precious Stones’ attempting to foil a jewel robbery, and layering on all the Italian charm he could muster.
It’s straightforward action-adventure, not overly complicated bordering on the nonsensical, plotting and spectacle that Doctor Who, and all the money lavished on it, has become lately.
