Being a self-confessed Anglophile does have its downsides. For instance, at least in the eyes of the THT Brain Trust, British comedy tends to be rather binary, being either a direct hit or a complete miss, and that’s with the underlying assumption that what crosses the pond is of a higher ‘quality,’ not to mention accessibility, for Anglophilic sensibilities.
With that preamble out of the way, the Eurovision Song Contest, and the seeming obsession with it inside England, completely is lost on the Tour. So it was with mild trepidation that we approached The Interstellar Song Contest, would this story rely on a familiarity with an institution with which we were not only not acquainted, but perhaps mildly disdainful of? Happily no. But there was so much stuffed into these 47 minutes that it’s difficult to know where to start.
In retrospect we thought of Utopia since The Interstellar Song Contest is the first of a three-part Series ending, and we hope two full Gatwa, Series, story arc. We also saw shades of The Waters of Mars, with a scarily angry Doctor on the verge of losing control. There’s also the return of the Rani. Did we mention the glimpses of Susan, THE Susan.
It’s all to play for. Fingers crossed. Images and caps for The Interstellar Song Contest are now online.
