Now the safest statement of this Doctor Who year … Dot and Bubble is no Blink. We know, we know, but it feels better just having said it, dont’cha think? We now know that in order to work around Ncuti Gatwa’s other obligations, a portion of Series 14 would, in the nu-Who sense, be ‘light.’
This has nothing to do with the Tour’s relatively poor appraisal of Dot and Bubble. e enjoy the program attempting to continue in the long tradition of bending the shows format into all sorts of shapes, some wildly successful (Blink), others decidedly less so (Sleep No More). If RTD had focussed his wit on the travails of ‘social media’ when exaggerated to outrageous proportions and on the shallowness of the characters, that might have worked up to a point.
Then came the ‘twist at the end’ which we felt were entirely unmotivated by the first 40 minutes of the plot. An abrupt turn to be sure, and one meant to be talked about, And so we have.

What the Tour is palpably more excited about is the fruition of bold experimentation in the arcane art of Screen Capping. Dot and Bubble is the first story to be screen capped in glorious 4K resolution! Previous unpublished attempts fell considerably short of our exacting Tour standards, but this time, and trust us it was an arduous process, we have something to show for it.
You could say the Tour went ‘Rogue’ a week early with the caps for Dot and Bubble. We can’t promise to repeat the feat next time, but we’ll try.
