The Tour continues to play catch-up with recent events and alights upon a facet of the recent update to the Peter Capaldi section with images related to his participation in a film directed Armando Iannucci called The Personal History of David Copperfield.

Capaldi and Iannucci’s working history most famously includes ‘The Thick of It’ which prominently featured Capaldi, and this marks the first time since then that the two are collaborating.  Capaldi will play Mr. Micawber in this loose Charles Dickens adaptation.

Of course this isn’t the first time, nor is it likely to be the last, that Capaldi has gone all Dickensian, indeed everyone remembers Thin Ice just from last year.

But for longer term fans there’s another resonant image which echoes all the way back to the first phase of the wilderness years between 1989 and 1996.

When it became clear that any hiatus in production would be verrrry long indeed, the more eccentric interpretations for what could follow centered on the image of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka.

You see?  It all comes together … eventually.
